Did You Know?

On March 8, 2023, Arkansas Governor Sarah Sanders signed the LEARNS Act into law and includes the Arkansas High-Impact Tutoring Pilot Program. This program provides approximately $20 million in grants to public school districts to implement high-impact tutoring programs in schools.

Eligible expenses in the Arkansas High-Impact Tutoring Pilot include, but are not limited to, hiring tutors, costs related to technology enabled tutoring, expenses related to improving the effectiveness of tutoring, and contracts with approved tutoring providers.

Over 850 Pulaski students in grades 3-8 completed approximately 4,000 sessions over a four-month period this school year.

Pulaski County’s collaboration with Stride Tutoring to recover lost learning sparked a transformation: from 40 to 80 in benchmark scores.

How To Get Funding For Your District

  • Apply by May 31, 2024. Both current grantees and new applicants (districts and public charter schools) may apply for funding for the 2024-2025 school year.
  • Applicants will be notified of their grant status by June 30, 2024.
  • Tutoring services should be used by end of 2024-2025 school year.
  • Districts will work with their selected provider (Stride Tutoring) to determine what curriculum is used for tutoring services. Coherence between Tier 1 instruction and tutoring service materials is critical.

Research

Arkansas Tutoring Corps: The Arkansas Department of Education and the Office of Education Renewal Zones launched the Arkansas Tutoring Corps to serve the academic needs of students across the state. The goals are to build a system of recruiting and training tutors, expand the Arkansas Tutoring Corps, and connect tutors with organizations serving students in need.
